Brief Introduction of the IT Department

Warm Welcome to the Information Technology Department.

The IT Department was started in UTAS-A (formerly Al Musannah College of Technology) in 1993. Since inception, the Department has walked a path of progress from its humble beginning to its present stage, under the visionary direction of institutional leaders during this span. The IT Department provides an environment for the academic community to impart quality academic and research oriented undergraduate education programs in relevant fields of Information Technology and prepare the students to be contributors to Omani society.

Currently, the IT Department offers Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree programs and is home to about 60 staff and 702 students. Students can choose Networking or Software Development as their specialization in the second year of Diploma. At higher levels, Networking branches to Networking and Information Security & Software Development branches to Software Engineering and Database Systems. A common curriculum is followed and courses are delivered to meet course goals, objectives, and outcomes and to achieve graduate attributes.

The Department has excellent infrastructure and resources available. We have experienced and skilled staff committed to delivering quality education. Moreover, the students are provided with ample support in the form of help centers and advisors. The laboratories are fitted out with state of the art equipment and the necessary software resources to deliver the courses. The Network Lab, CISCO Lab, Multimedia Lab, Software Lab and Hardware Labs cater to the student needs.

Our faculty members are involved in research activities as well. Many of them collaborate with The Research Council (TRC), Oman for research projects. Student research projects are supervised by specialized staff in those areas. We have 23 faculty holding doctorate degrees and many others are in the process of completing their PhDs. Most of our staff have undergone instructor training with academy programs offered by CISCO and HUAWEI while our staff development programs provide opportunities for acquiring new knowledge and sharing of best practices. Our IT staff are assigned to IT, Networking, and Mathematics sections based on their area of specialization.

The Department is vibrant with academic and non-academic activities, so we invite you to visit our Department to know more about the programs and other details. Continue with the website to know more.
