Mathematics Section 

Mathematics fosters critical thinking, sharpens problem solving ability and shapes analytical thinking. In this emerging technological scenario, Mathematics plays a pivotal role in our daily routine making it an indivisible part of our professional life as well.

At UTAS-A, the Mathematics Section renders its immense support to the Department of Information Technology, Engineering, Business Studies and General Foundation Programs. Furthermore, the Section helps students to acquire basic to advanced mathematical skills and prepare them to handle the problem-solving challenges that they will soon be facing in their professional life.

To ensure quality teaching and learning environment, the Section emphasizes on student centered learning (SCL) providing the learners with Open Educational Resource (OER), which is a modern learning system in parallel with traditional learning. We have also been effectively adapting our pedagogic approach during the pandemic to overcome the challenges and meet the demands of teaching and learning brought about by the current situation. The faculty members of Mathematics Section have proactively strengthened their teaching and mentoring activities through MS Teams and other various online pedagogic tools. We strongly feel that since the knowledge of Mathematics is growing and in constant and consistent demand, students who fall behind a particular edge in their mathematical education will find it very difficult to cope with emerging challenges in their respective fields of study. Hence, UTAS-A Mathematics staff leave no stone unturned in tackling the students’ ‘arithmophobia’ and in inculcating a positive approach towards learning math. In this connection, Math Help Centre (MHC) of UTAS-A offers continuous support to all students who need help in Mathematics during the college working hours. MHC provides students with a rare opportunity to have regular contact with teachers outside the classroom hours. In fact, it works as a personal mentoring programme that allows personalized and customized learning environment for students at all levels. Our aim is to offer students with a constant and persistent support system to face academic challenges and hone their mathematical skills to successfully emerge as techno-managerial professional with high ethical values and perceivable societal impact.
