To ensure that the newly-hired staff integrate smoothly into the University community and come to grips with the policies, procedures, and regulations, the English Language Center (ELC) conducts staff induction as needs arise. For Semester 1 of AY 2021-2022, the ELC held its first induction to its new teaching staff on 16th November 2021 from 12PM to 12:40PM at the New Meeting Room. This brief orientation of the lecturers who joined ELC recently was spearheaded by the QA Coordinator, Dr. Annie B. Domede and was attended by Dr. Nihad Al Zadjali, the Head of Center (HoC), and Dr. Faisal Al Saadi, the Head of Section (HoS)-CTM.
Dr. Annie provided a short background about the University in general and the ELC in particular. She then spoke about the General Foundation Program (GFP) Management structure, planning procedure followed at the University as well as the available student support services and facilities, student behavior management procedure, staff support and appraisal, and the fundamental duties and responsibilities of the staff. Dr. Annie also shared the procedure for filing short and sick leaves and referred the new staff to the ELC Staff Handbook for their general reference.
On the other hand, Dr. Faisal explained about the GFP program structure, assessments, and the general guidelines for student attendance. Dr. Nihad also elaborated on the various GFP assessments and requested the new staff to familiarize themselves with the GFP assessment components and to read the assessment booklet made available for lecturers.
During the orientation, the newly-joined ELC staff were also informed about the ongoing strategic planning at UTAS and that the new Strategic Plan (SP) elements of the University will soon be shared with everyone once approved by the proper authorities.
