Student Guidelines on Examination

Student Guidelines on Examination

During the final examination, all students are required to adhere and follow the guidelines in order to achieve a proper and fair conduct of the exams.

Part of the rules include the expected behavior in the examination venue, use of mobile phones, allowable examination kit, copyrighting, cheating, and other forms of violations.

Violations will be immediately reported to higher authorities and serious actions will be taken according to ‘Article 80, Bylaws of Colleges of Technology’, issued by Ministry of Manpower, Sultanate of Oman.

Credit Hours System

ACT follows the credit hour system. The credit hour is a unit of measurement specifying the weightage of courses during one academic semester.

All courses will carry three credit hours.

a.    1 Credit Hour =          1 Hour Theoretical Class

                                     2 Hours Practical Class

b.   3 Credit Hours =         2 Hours Theoretical + 2 Hours Practical

Required number of Credit Hours

The required number of credit hours for graduation at each of the levels of qualification varies according to the different specializations as follows:

(a) Diploma

(b) Advanced Diploma

(c) Bachelor's Degree

Minimum number of Credit Hours

The minimum number of courses required of a full-time student is five courses per semester although students can register four courses if he or she wishes to do so but they have to do the same within the ADD/DROP week and two courses in the summer semester.

The student is allowed to drop 3 credit hours or one course within a week of the announcement of the mid-term exam.

Increasing the number of Credit Hours

A student may increase the number of credit hours provided above, by a maximum of 6 non-cumulative credit hours or two courses for each of the four levels of study. This also applies to transfer students from other universities, colleges, or institutions of higher education. The time spent by the student in those institutions must be considered as part of the maximum time for completing the level. The student has to complete at least 50% of the total credit hours at the College.

It is possible, upon a recommendation from the Undersecretary and the approval of the Minister, to amend the total number of credit hours required for awarding a certificate in any of the four levels of study, and the credit hours of other college requirements.
